    [Abstract] The automatic transmission with the advantages of comfortable driving and smooth start is applied more and more widely for passenger vehicles. At present, the automatic transmission of China self-owned brand is lack of core competency in development and industrialization, such as insufficient core design capacity, multifarious technology roadmap. Moreover, the situation of automatic transmission market is in mess, such as independent development, lack of cooperation, overlapping investment and low production scale. The automatic transmission industry becomes an important bottleneck for the automobile industry. This study researches the situation of china transmission market, main difficulties, current bottleneck and its internal causes. We also elaborate how to choose transmission technology strategy, and the appropriate transmission for different vehicles based on technology and cost. Finally, we propose several suggestions on future development strategy to automatic transmission industry.
